Hello all Haraki regulars! We are venturing to Haraki in September for the first time and can't wait. Couple of questions for you: Is there a supermarket where you can buy bits & bobs for self catering? We have booked directly with Alia and have read somewhere that Paul offers an airport pickup - does anyone know what the price should be? Are we able to buy cigarettes in the shops? I smoke menthol and sometimes struggle in the smaller resorts. Is there somewhere to change money - I know there is no ATM Is there somewhere to book trips - maybe Rhodes town at night type of trip? Thanks in advance

Hello Twiggy, welcome to this forum. There are four mini-markets in Haraki, one of them is just opposite Alia1. You can get the basics in all of them. The cost of taxis between the airport and Haraki range between 50 and 60 euros per journey. I know Pavlos has offered transfers but you need to negotiate with him. Contact details are on the accommodation page of the Haraki website: www.haraki.co.uk/accomproviders.htmlCigarettes are sold in all the minimarkets but which brands/types I'm afraid I can't help you with. Simon at Haraki Rent A Car offers a money exchange and again he's right opposite Alia1. I think Pavlos has started organising trips this year, you should speak to him direct. As far as I know there's nobody else doing trips, apart from the Glass Bottom Boat which leaves the seafront close to M&S (but nothing to do with them), there's a notice on the street light pole. Hope this helps. Bob.

Thanks Bob, thats great. We are supposed to having a Twin Centre holiday with our first week in Tilos but there are some issues with the ferries - mainly the Sea Star is not running.
I have emailed Pavlos at Alia and he can accomodate us for the other week if necessary so we may be there for 2 weeks instead of 1!
I'm sure I'll have other questions!
Many thanks

You can book trips through the Olympic rep who visits Alia most days. We travel independently and did it last year

Thanks for all the Info. The Dodek Express only runs Tuesdays & Thursdays in the middle of September and we land on a Saturday. I think we might get over to Tilos using the Blue Star Ferry (late crossing but on a Saturday). Probably won't do a trip if we've done this.
Good news about the menthol ciggies!

Hi Twiggy,
A question for you - if you don't mind. What inspired you to come to the beloved Haraki?

Hi Jeffbo - I'm presuming that you are being genuine lol. I've had a lot of mixed reactions on the TA Haraki forum!
I spent a long time researching Rhodes to find a small resort which I though may be similar to Plakias which we love in Crete. Someone on the Plakias Forum suggested it - and here we are (or will be in September!)
We backpacked around the islands (smaller ones) about 12 years ago, but recently seemed to have fallen into the trap of commercialised resorts. We thought it would be nice to return to one of the smaller resorts.
Here's hoping its what we are expecting!
Regards

Hi Twiggy ..Plakias was the first place I ever visited in Greece we visited Haraki for the first time last year twinned with Halki for the 2nd week ...we loved it !...we found it an excellent base to explore from , we tended to go out early and be back for a long lazy lunch and a snooze on the beach I'm sure you'll enjoy it

Hi Twiggy,
Genuine question it was indeed - it was intriging that you knew a thing or two about Haraki, but had not been. So it was on recommendation! My wife and I are on our tenth visit in 'September also as it happens'. It's a wonderful place that so many folks (as well as us) just keep coming back to. The Greek families that run restaurants, bars and shops are lovely folks (well most of 'em). That, the folks who come on holiday, the beach and the sea, all combine to make it a place you can't wait to come back to.
I hope you find it to be so too. Jeffbo

Hi Rab, There is a bus service but the only practical times heading towards Rhodes town are 09:45 leaving Haraki and leaving Rhodes town for Haraki at 16:30. Heading in the Lindos direction The bus would stop in Haraki about 11:00 and 17:30. The bus from Lindos to Rhodes at 09:30 and 15:30 would pass through Haraki. (Stopping at 09:45 and 15:45) If you are prepared to walk about 2 Km up to the main road you can pick up the bus at other times. This is the link for the Rhodes bus timetable. www.ando.gr/eot/eng/BUS.pdfLes.
