In leaving Google Groups were losing some things and gaining others. This post is just about some of the things we're losing.
The main things are email notifications (on Google Groups if someone posts something we get an email message by default, unless we've switched this off in our profile). The second thing is we won't be able to send posts to the ProBoards forum by email. So to use ProBoards you have to go to the forum on the web and look to see what's been going on, you won't get a message telling you there has been activity.
The exception to this is that you can 'bookmark' a thread. So if there's a thread about, say, the price of taxis and you're interested in this subject then you can 'bookmark' that thread by clicking on the little Bookmark icon below any of the posts on that thread (you need to be logged in of course).
BUT you have to tell ProBoards what you want it to do when you have bookmarked one or more threads. This is easy and you only have to do it once, but you do have to do it.
The steps are:
Log in and go to your Profile from the main menu
At the top of your 'Bio' click on 'Bookmarks'
On the next screen there's a blue line with the heading 'Bookmarks' and at the other end it says "Manage Bookmarks", which you should click on.
On the next screen select 'Email' from the dropdown menu below the line starting "By default"
Click on Update Bookmarks . . and you're done. You will now receive an email every time someone adds something to the Taxis thread, any other threads you have bookmarked BUT NOT the threads you have not bookmarked. If you no longer want to receive emails about a thread simply go to it and hit 'remove bookmark'.
